Notes in the Key of Life blog
(see previous articles here)
One of the search engine searches that frequently lands people on my website and this blog is "Nicholas Jonas." Apparently there are a lot of you out there who really care about this very talented young man.
Last year around Christmas time, the 11-year-old made a splash with his hopeful song, "Joy to the World/ A Christmas Prayer." I mentioned in my blog at that time that my colleague Charmel Jacobs had interviewed Nicholas on Radio 91. That mention garnered so much interest that I decided to write a little article about Nicholas on my website.
Today I got an e-mail from Bill Werner of Christian Concert Ministries Inc:
"I enjoyed your piece about Nicholas Jonas from last Christmas Season. I wanted to update you on Nicholas. He has signed with SONY RECORDS and already has a single released entitled 'DEAR GOD'. Sony will be releasing his full CD (ALL or ALMOST ALL written by Nicholas and/or his brothers) at the end of November 2004. He will be on the Columbia Records Label as well as INO Record label. Things are moving fast for this nice boy but, one thing isn't changing and that is his love for the Lord."
Nicholas is a remarkable young performer who has appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables, Annie Get Your Gun, Beauty and the Beast, and others. But not only is he talented, it's obvious that this young man has a real heart for others.
He is the founder of the Nicholas Jonas Change for the Children Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps needy, sick and homeless children. With his clear testimony, Nicholas has been able to, in his words, "spread the Word" about Jesus in the New York theater community.
Kudos to Nicholas Jonas for being salt and light in his world.

INO Records has announced the signing of 12-year-old singer and actor Nicholas Jonas, partnering with Columbia Records to release Jonas’ self-titled debut project nationally on November 23rd. Buzz on Jonas’ self-titled debut is building with its first single, “Dear God,” a powerful prayer sung from a child’s heart concerning the many troubles happening in our world today with the hope that is found in bringing our concerns to God. The song, which will be released to Christian AC radio on October 1st and went to mainstream AC and CHR/Pop formats September 21st, has already received several spins on the popular syndicated radio show “Delilah.”
There is early success on other AC stations as well. Jonas will perform on CBS’ Early Show on November 13th singing multiple songs as well as on the highly rated WB’s morning show in New York City on October 11th. He was recently asked to perform the song before 600 United Nations delegates during a symposium on world healing in the age of terrorism. According to Jeff Moseley, President, INO Records, “I entered into the idea of working with a 12-year old with fear and in trepidation. My fears have quickly resolved after realizing just how purposeful he is about what God has called him to do. He has an amazing sense of acuity when it comes to goals and dreams.” A passionate and talented singer, songwriter, actor, dancer and performer, Jonas has already starred in four Broadway shows, including the last person to play role of Gavroche in 'Les Misérables', as Chip in 'Beauty and the Beast', Little Jake in 'Annie Get Your Gun' with Reba McEntire and Crystal Bernard, and Tiny Tim and the Young Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol – the Musical' at Madison Square Garden.
He has also appeared in numerous commercials. Jonas’ vocal and performing abilities have also been highlighted in Broadway showcases, a special Broadway Christmas recording which included a song he wrote with his father, and starring in the Papermill Playhouse version of 'The Sound of Music'.

Moseley continues, "In today's age with pre-manufactured pop, even as young as he is, Nicholas is a breath of fresh air as he has the ability to 'voice' his projects through his singing and songwriting."
Already being compared to a young Stevie Wonder, Jonas' debut also features his family. He wrote eight of the songs along with his father and two brothers, Kevin (17) and Joseph (15). Making it a true family affair, his brothers join as backup on several songs. The project was produced by Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers (N*Sync, Jessica Simpson).
"This is my first record, so I'm very excited about this new experience and I am so blessed to have a family that is so loving and supportive of what I'm doing," comments Jonas. "I hope this record touches a lot of people and I've been praying that the Lord will use it in a big way. The hope of this record is to make people feel good and happy inside. I'm excited to see what comes next."

He started this effort after seeing a homeless family on the streets of New York City. His heart is to see children touched through the efforts of other children, including his talented friends in the child-acting Broadway community.

Life's Legalities blog (see later update here)
I heard the voice of this young 12-year old singer, Nicholas Jonas, weeks ago but only took notice when I was listening to someone who sounded like girl but whose name sounded like a boy. So I went out googling for him.
This kid is something. He’s got an excellent voice (though I figure it hasn’t cracked) and a c.v. that includes playing Gavroche in Les Miserables, Chip in Beauty and the Beast and other Broadway performances. Now for a 12-year old kid, that’s something. I mean, what was I at the tender age of 12? A kid who won gummi worms for the best storytelling in a talent show.
Here’s his original song Joy To The World (A Christmas Prayer) released on the internet for you to listen to (you will need Windows Media Player 8 or higher). I was bowled over. That was one excellent voice. He will release his self-titled debut album in January 2005 but the single Dear God has already been released on radio. It was that song that caught my attention.
God bless this young guy. As for me, I’ll just return to my storytelling.
